My Safe Florida Home: what the program covers and how to apply
Free wind mitigation inspections and matching grants for roofs, windows and doors. How the state program works and where the catches are.
By Sade Roofing and Constructions, licensed Florida roofing and general contractor

My Safe Florida Home is a state program that pays for a free wind mitigation inspection and, when funded, offers matching grants toward hurricane hardening. Funding is approved by the Legislature in rounds, so availability changes from year to year. Always check the current status on the Florida Department of Financial Services site before planning around it.
The inspection
A state-approved inspector visits your home and produces a wind mitigation report listing what you have and what upgrades would earn insurance credits. The inspection itself has been free to eligible single-family homeowners.
The grant
When grant funding is open, eligible homeowners can receive matching funds, historically two dollars for every one dollar the homeowner spends up to a cap, for improvements recommended in the inspection. Common funded items have included impact windows and doors, garage doors, and roof-related improvements such as secondary water barriers and roof-to-wall connections. Low-income homeowners have at times qualified for grants with no match.
Eligibility basics
- Site-built single-family home that is your primary residence
- Homestead exemption on the property
- Insured value within the program cap
- Located in Florida, with priority rules that have changed between funding rounds
How we help
We are a licensed contractor eligible to perform work under the program. We help you read the inspection report, quote the improvements it recommends, and provide the documentation the program needs for reimbursement. If the grant is not currently funded, we can still do the work and give you the wind mitigation report for your insurer.
